You decide you two are ready, or as ready as possible, I should say. You decide this over a ridiculously delicious meal, on vacation of course, and after at least two bottles of wine. Yep, a baby sounds like a great plan. There goes the birth control down the toilet, in the middle of your cycle mind you (worst idea for getting your body on cycle for pregnancy), because why not? Now begins the fun part of trying, and for the next two months you’re all about it. Every time seems like “this is it.” By the third month you realize all of that “baby-making” sex had nothing to do with creating a baby at all, seeing as you’ve been on birth control for oh, I’d say 12 years, and you just got your first regular cycle. Then you get a call from your much younger friend who started trying the exact same time as you, surprise, they’re pregnant! You go on Facebook and another friend, again much younger, is already 3 months pregnant! Then you curse your old eggs and just want to be pregnant already. Then come the feelings of “I should have tried earlier, “ and “I’m going to be ancient when my kid graduates college.” Ok, just clear your head and start to get realistic, go and buy some ovulation kits. Pee on them every day just making sure you aren’t missing your High or Peak days (so confusing but they are a must-do, get the digital version), and continue to have sex any possible time. Then the waiting game comes…every two weeks you’re either ovulating, getting a period, or finding out your pregnant. And you follow this on repeat for months as you take pregnancy tests just hoping that this month it worked (it becomes a race you just want to win already!). In the end, although it seemed like ages, it did only take 5.5 months. Now you’ll think the above seems like I’m dramatic (me, yeah right!), but when you are 33 and decide to get pregnant, you want it to happen like yesterday. You’ll see what I mean!
Below is a picture of when the "trying" first started. It was called "Baby Race 2013" back in July, 2013. Our dear friends Jen & Christian met us in Seattle for a wild 12 hours :) By the way, they won and are due in June!
